About The Author
Ben Rao is an author, serial entrepreneur, business coach, philanthropist and senior care advocate who lives in Lee’s Summit, Missouri (outside Kansas City, MO).
Ben experienced first-hand the emotional and financial struggle that families face when he was unexpectedly confronted with the reality of transitioning his own father into senior care. He was challenged by the lack of direction and resources available for a process that nearly all of us will eventually need to go through. That experience inspired Ben to use his personal and professional experience in the long-term care industry to help families transition their loved ones into senior care.
Ben enjoys traveling, biking, hiking, and outdoor adventures – he tries to visit at least two national parks every year. He lives with his wife, Rhonda, and their two children, Maddy and Charlie, in a renovated historic building that was once the Lee’s Summit Hospital and the Dayton Hotel in Downtown Lee’s Summit. He also developed Lee’s Summit’s first entrepreneurial incubator and shared office space in a formerly vacant post office. Ben works there alongside his trusty sidekick, Charlie dog, a border collie who has gone to the office with him every day for the last 10 years.
John White is a Pacific Northwest native and Idaho is home to him. His mother died from cancer when he was 11 and he eventually became the oldest of 11 children in a blended family. His father was a minister and instilled ethical and moral values in his children along with a love of playing guitar. John’s earliest job was washing planes at a nearby airfield and he can chat about most any airplane ever built. After serving in the Air Force for four years he attended Boise State University studying chemistry and computer science. His engineering mind led him into computer technology work and for 30 years he worked as a consultant on a variety of projects. He’s an accomplished project manager of nuclear and solar power plants as well as manufacturing facilities. He’s happy to not be a “road warrior” any longer and appreciates travel now for the fun places he can explore. He loves the outdoors, fishing and all the beauty the mountains offer. He’s an avid vegetable gardener too. He’s a quiet man with a wicked sense of humor.
He and Carmen met in the Carolinas in 2006, lived in Amelia Island, Florida for 6 years and now call Boise home. John’s only child, Justin, is in Boise and they wanted to be close to his family. The call of a young grandchild is strong and a reason many families move. They recently took a fascinating cruise around Iceland and created a lifelong memory no one will forget.
John’s invested in property throughout his life and together with Carmen is building a heart centered business helping seniors. Their passion is helping them and families make the move into senior care communities with ease and grace.
Carmen Hunter White
Carmen was raised in St Paul, MN and is the eldest of five children. Weekends were spent on her maternal grandparents farm where they helped with various aspects of running a farm and learning about hard work. She let her brothers fight over who was going to drive the tractor while she learned to harvest the garden, read anything she could get her hands on and cook hearty meals. Her favorite pastime was creating dream homes out of Sears and Montgomery Ward catalogs. She and her two remaining brothers and sister are a tightknit family.
She studied Business and Marketing before heading to the mountains in Colorado as a travel agent. She loved the fact the sun shone in the winter and she became an avid downhill skier. She and her first husband found they wanted to be closer to his aging parents in Charlotte, NC and loved the warmer weather and lifestyle North Carolina offered. She had a boat on Lake Norman for over 20 years and that’s still one of her “happy places”. Carmen has travelled extensively in the Caribbean and Europe and her passport is always up to date. She loves boating, beaches, reading, concerts and exploring. Creating a beautiful home and place for friends and family to gather are top on her list of favorite things.
She started her real estate career selling new construction homes and sold hundreds of homes to families and retirees in a variety of communities throughout the Charlotte area. Her first real estate transaction was helping her then in-laws prepare, market and sell their home so they could make a proactive move to a Continuous Care Retirement Community. She’s a top performing salesperson who never had to look for a job. Her favorite work was helping clients create a luxury home that suits them in every way, from the homesite selected, floorplan designed and even would guide them in the design, selections and finishes to help make their home a masterpiece. This work and husband, John, led her to Amelia Island Florida for several years. Another family driven move transported them to Boise where they now reside, close to John’s only child and his family creating memories for a lifetime. She didn’t have children of her own so the joy of having John’s family and grandchildren is irreplaceable.
Her personal and family experiences with senior and health driven transitions has led to focusing her real estate business to assisting families with a need to move Mom (or Dad). Creating an environment of empathy and support she will guide them to finding the right solution that is best for their situation. Many options are open to seniors and her goal is to be their trusted advisor throughout the stressful process of moving and selling their home.
Carmen is active in her community and volunteers to provide senior services in Ada County.
